2 - Frisby to Melton Mowbray <<-- : -->> 1 - Cossington Junction to Frisby

As the Oakham Canal was abandoned in 1847, the canal line is inevitably either filled in or heavily overgrown, with structures such as locks long since demolished.

As you travel along the B676 east of Melton Mowbray the line is often quite clear, and in other places remains of the towpath hedge clearly show the track.

At The Lodge near Cord Hill the former canal bed is in water on each side of the road, and the marked difference in level suggests that this was the site of a lock. Undergrowth prevents a better picture.

The Teigh to Edmondthorpe road crosses the canal at a point where it is in a deep cutting and the canal line on both sides of the road is still in water, although heavily overgrown. There is no sign of a towpath, so either the water level has risen or the banks of the cutting have slipped.

It is hoped to explore other points along the canal at a later date.
