1 - Welland Canal <<-- : -->> 3 - Canso Channel
This 800 metre long canal runs between the Bras d'Or Lake and the Atlantic Ocean in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Unusually, both ends of the canal are tidal, and can differ in height by as much as 1.4 metres either way, so the lock has twin sets of gates at each end. Famously a destroyer passed through during the Second World War when the tides made a level and all gates could be opened.
