Canal Latéral à la Marne

The Canal Latéral à la Marne was made navigable in the early part of the 19th Century connecting Vitry-le-François to Dizy. Prior to that the River Marne had been navigable, but navigation thereon was very susceptible to the water level. The canal is 42 miles long with just 15 locks.
