Forton Aqueduct is unusual as it also carries a public road alongside the canal over the River Meese. It was sold to Staffordshire County Council for a nominal sum (five pounds, I think) during the 1970's. After crossing the river the road almost immediately crosses the canal on an extremely skew bridge.
